De Anza College NIMS Accreditation

Maintaining an Industry standard inside the classroom Maintaining an industry standard

inside the classroom is no easy task, but the Manufacturing and CNC Technology Program at De Anza College has gone above and beyond and is officially accredited by NIMS as of April 27, 2015. In receiving this national recognition the DeAnza staff and faculty demonstrate their commitment not only to NIMS national industry
standards but to excellence in metalworking training within the state of California and for the greater U.S. Manufacturing industry.

The NIMS Accreditation review process entails a self-evaluation, instructor and student credentialing requirements, and a two-day
On-Site Evaluation. That evaluation occurred in March of this year at the college’s Cupertino training facility and was conducted by a
NIMS Evaluation Team that included representation of industry and education:
Evaluation Team Leader Mark Lashinske,   Modern Industries
- Tony Castruccio, Custom Gear & Machine
- Iven May, Autodesk
- Dan Sunia, CA Tooling & Machining   Apprenticeship Association

New Teacher
Training Programs

The De Anza College HTEC is proud to announce Teacher Training Programs for CNC Mill and Lathe.
This new program is designed for teachers either new to CNC Machining or with some experience. Attendees should be able to use basic measuring tools and understand the basics of machining operations and shop math. Because this class is tailored to teachers we do not require the textbook work prior to the start of class but we do highly recommend reading through the sections on CNC Machining. We do require the completion of the on-line training for both machine types. The skills covered in the online training include CNC mill/lathe setup, programming and operation. The Haas CNC Mill and Lathe Workbook also cover G&M-Code programming in much detail. The hands-on portion involves three 8-hour days on each machine type (total of 6 days) directly on Haas CNC machines. Class size is limited to 5 people for the highest quality training possible. The hands-on training includes safety, machine pre-checks, coolant management, startup, tooling and workholding, setting work and tool offset, basic G-code programming, inputting and editing programs, adjusting wear offsets, machining parts and inspecting results with precision measuring tools. The last day of each 3 day segment is set aside for NIMS level 1 testing.
